The German Army Selects Heckler & Koch G210

The German Army has selected Heckler & Koch’s MR308A6 as the G210. Since 2020 the Bundeswehr has been seeking a new   short-range sniper weapon (Scharfschützengewehr kurze Reichweite). Initially this was to be fielded in small numbers with the Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK) und Feldjäger units but appears to have subsequently become a larger program with the option to procure up to 500 G210 rifles.

The G210 is essentially a DMR – Designated Marksman Rifle. The rifle is chambered in 7.62x51mm and in the past has been displayed at exposition like Enforce Tac with features including a two-stage match trigger, an MLOK handguard, a left-side charging handle and a 46-degree through safety selector. The rifle has a 16.75-inch barrel and weighs 4.4kg / 9.7lbs.Hartpunkt reports that other manufacturers which submitted weapons to the program at various stages included Haenel, Giessle and Colt Canada.

James Reeves spoke to H&K about the new rifle earlier this year:

The Bundeswehr have already selected the new rifle’s optics with a tender running concurrent with the original rifle program, in 2020, selecting a Schmidt & Bender scope, believed to be a variant of the 5-20 x 50 PM II Ultra Short. In imagery provided by H&K the rifle appears to have an Ase Utra BoreLock muzzle brake and Ase Utra Dual762-BL suppressor.

Here's what H&K have to say on the G210:

“Heckler & Koch supplies the German Army with the new semi-automatic sniper rifle G210
The German Army has once again opted for a rifle from Heckler & Koch. The traditional handgun manufacturer from Oberndorf am Neckar won the tender process for the G210 with the MR308A6 model. The G210 is a short-range sniper weapon in the tried and tested 7.62 mm x 51 caliber. Delivery of up to 500 G210s for the German Army's special forces is planned for 2025.
The MR308A6 was developed by Heckler & Koch specifically for this tender and presented to the public at the EnforceTac trade fair in February of this year. The weapon also introduces a precision cartridge in 7.62 mm x 51 caliber. The semi-automatic gas-operated loader weighs around 4.4 kg (without magazine) and offers significantly more operating comfort thanks to the relocation of the reloading option to the side of the weapon.
Dr.-Ing. Jens Bodo Koch, CEO of Heckler & Koch, and Sales Director Marco Geißinger were delighted with the order on the sidelines of the contract signing: "We at Heckler & Koch are proud to be a supplier to the German Armed Forces' special forces. The spearhead of the German Armed Forces deserves the best weapons in the world. That is what Heckler & Koch stands for. After the delivery of the HK437 .300BLK as the G39 SD was ordered just a few months ago, the next product innovation from our company is the MR308A6 as the G210.””

Incredibly short handguard on a DMR: Stupid

    Side Charging: Stupid

*this may have been a contract req..thus…needed, but still stupid*

    Armalite-A/PMAG Compatibility: Bueno

Chances we’ll see these in the US…1/10, just so H&K can mock us.

Handguard length is perfectly sufficient for whatever the Special Forces dudes running these will want to mount. The side charging handle is infinitely more ergonomic to use in the prone without adding meaningful complexity. HK doesn't care about you, get over it.

The G210 comes with an Ase Utra Bore-Lock muzzle brake. It looks like the suppressor is an Ase Utra Dual762-BL.
