Photo Of The Day – TFB is now on our 7:th year of bringing you high-quality photographs from the world of firearms every day. The world is full of stories and photographs and today we focus on Special Forces Green Berets assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group, as they fire their M4 carbines.

Photo Of The Day: We have a close-up of the Scharfschützengewehr (Sniper Rifle) G22A2 with the Steiner M5Xi 5-25×56 riflescope. Accuracy International Ltd. (AI) won the tender to upgrade the existing G22 sniper rifles of the German Armed Forces. The German Army uses .300 Winchester Magnum, or 7.62x67mm in Bundeswehr’s nomenclature.

This week on Wheelgun Wednesday I am bringing the Hugo Hensel back for all you revolver lovers and appreciators. It has been a while since I was at the helm of a good old wheel gun article and I assure you I have been super excited and patient to share some more information I found on the H. Hensel revolver I previously posted about. Last time I talked about how I acquired the revolver, my research at the time, the specifications, and my cartridge speculation. Some new exciting information has popped up so let’s dive down the rabbit hole.

Photo Of The Day: One rifle I really would like to have in my collection is the MR308, but I got the MR223 instead. I wish it was the other way around, but there we are. Today we’re looking at the G28, or HK241, which is the military version of the civilian semi-automatic rifle MR308. It uses the 7.62 x 51 mm NATO round and as a DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) it is supposed to keep accuracy of 1.5 MOA and also be compatible with various night vision devices.

In this Photo Of The Day, someone even pixelated the patches before the photo was released. Well, it’s not often we get to see any pictures at all from the German Special Unit GSG9 ( Grenzschutzgruppe 9), so we’re thankful for anything. The unit was cool before most of the readers of this blog were born.

We visit Freundeskreis Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Germany in our Photo Of The Day. Above you can spot a Rheinmetall MG 3 machine gun and a Heckler & Koch G36 rifle. While a machine gun may be noisy, it’s nothing compared to the 30 mm automatic cannon on the Puma IFV below.

People that enjoy travelling, visiting exhibitions and shooting competitions (I’m one of them) are having a hard time. Not to mention airlines, hotels, taxis and everyone who caters for all the travellers. Just imagine the mountain of sausages and the lake of beer that gets served during one of the large exhibitions in Germany.

This Gewehr 36, or G36, is looking over the largest multinational training area in Europe. The location is Grafenwöhr in eastern Bavaria, Germany. The Grafenwoehr Training Area is located directly south-west of the town, and became an important training site for the U.S. Army and allied forces after the World War II. As you can see, it is still in use, and it also looks like there’s plenty of room for the 5.56×45 mm to stretch out.

The German government has withdrawn their order for 120,000 Haenel MK556 rifles. Last month C.G. Haenel were awarded a major contract to replace the Bundeswehr’s G36 service rifle. The Haenel MK556 was selected over the Heckler & Koch HK416 and HK433. Heckler & Koch subsequently filed an appeal of the decision and today it seems the contract has been withdrawn following investigation.

The Night-Tronic NT940 Monocular (Mini-14) is a very compact light amplifier. The device is slightly smaller and lighter than the PVS-14 (NT920), yet it offers the same or better performance in darkness. Due to its small size, the device can be used hands-free, head-mounted or helmet-mounted, or paired with traditional sighting or aiming optics. The device can be connected to the camera for “digiscoping” type nature or star photography using the optional mounting adapter.

The German Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) have revealed further details on the tender as well as the future timeline for the procurement of the Bundeswehr’s next service rifle system.

One week after the German Ministry of Defence confirmed that the company C.G. Haenel and their MK556 Assault Rifle had been chosen we finally have an official statement from the company.

Heckler & Koch released a statement earlier today addressing the Bundeswehr’s selection of the C.G. Haenel MK556 over HK’s HK416 and new HK433 rifles.

After almost six decades with Heckler & Koch, the German Bundeswehr appears to have selected a new supplier for its assault rifle. TFB has followed the process closely and while the decision had been delayed we knew that a decision from the was due this autumn. We also knew that regardless of the outcome of the German Army’s choice the result would be of great importance for decades to come.
