Aim Surplus (AIM) is a popular online retailer of gun accessories, firearms, and military & police surplus. What many may not know is that AIM is a huge seller of bolt carrier group (BCG) for AR style rifles. AIM’s customers had purchased over 50,000 of the AIM basic AR-15 BCG so far. The popularity is partly because of AIM BCG models are usually priced anywhere from 30-50% cheaper than what most AR-15 manufacturers are selling theirs.

Adcor Defense has been teasing on their Facebook page their “Dust-Wiper” polymer bolt carrier group. Originally introduced in their BEAR rifles, the polymer cover assists with “wiping” dust and debris from the bolt carrier during cycling after the dust cover itself has been released.

When shopping for BCG’s for an AR 15 build there are many who are of the opinion there’s not much difference between them other than price. If you do your homework you’ll find there aren’t that many companies making complete bolt carrier groups or the bolts themselves. The majority of companies selling AR’s purchase these parts from companies specializing in the manufacture of BCG’s and other AR parts.

Utterly mesmerizing. A promotional video released by Swisstek, a CNC lathe/machine company showcases the machining of a 8630 steel AR-15/M-16 bolt. The video is at roughly 3x speed, but I believe it adds to the fascination. It certainly lends more appreciate for the technology and investment required to build weapon systems.

A new company to the weapons industry, BoomFab has announced the release of their first product- the TiTane Carrier. The TiTan is a CNC Machined bolt carrier designed for competition use. At only 4.4 ozs. with the gas key (standard carriers are about 9 ozs.), BoomFab claims that the TiTane carrier “results in faster shot recovery, increased cycling speeds, and minimized muzzle movement.”
