PSA Releases the Soviet Arms AKS-74U “Krinkov” In 300BLK

PSA seems to be running on a “give them what they want” philosophy, polling customers on social media and developing products based on their responses. This strategy stirred the pot well at SHOT Show 2024 in January, with crowds flocking to see a number of new releases and concepts, including the .308 JAKL, STG, and the PSA X5.7. Another new release receiving notable fanfare was their Soviet Arms Krink, which hit the market one month later with the 5.56 variant. Now, only six months later, Palmetto State Armory is announcing the Krink in 300BLK, and it seems there has been more thought put into this variant than a simple barrel swap. Let’s take a look.

Palmetto State Armory set out to bring us Soviet Arms AKS-74U with all the charm and aesthetic of the original “Krinkov” chambered in 5.45x39mm, but in a caliber that is far easier to find stateside these days. Availability aside, 300BLK is a versatile cartridge ranging from 110gr supersonic to 220gr subsonic ammunition and performs very well out of a short barrel.

The Soviet Arms AKS-74U Krink in 300BLK shares similarities with its 5.56x45mm predecessor. Both feature a hammer-forged side folding 4.5mm rear trunnion, hinged dust cover with integrated sight, and an 8.4” 4150 steel barrel crowned by a Krink Booster muzzle device. The AKS-74U Krink in 300BLK comes ready to attach a brace or stock (if going the SBR route) or with an optional side folding triangle brace on a JMAC Customs adapter.

Standard grip and handguard options will include Plum Gloss and Redwood. There are also options available including a JMAC Customs railed handguard setup and a gray MK3 chassis model courtesy of SureShot.

Here is where things get interesting. The gas system utilizes an AR-style gas block mounted to the barrel, underneath the handguard, closer to the chamber. This design allowed PSA to increase the dwell time, allowing the 300BLK Krink to cycle supersonic and subsonic ammunition without needing adjustable gas settings. Just swap magazines and go from capable distances to an ultra-quiet CQB subgun. I can get on board with that!
