Barrett Wins First International Government Contract With The MRADELR

It has been more than forty years since Ronnie Barrett built the Model 82, the shoulder-fired .50 caliber rifle nobody thought was possible. I wonder if he knew at that moment it was a first step towards becoming the world leader in large-caliber rifle design and manufacturing. Barrett rifles are used by the U.S. military, law enforcement agencies, civilian shooters, and more than 80 countries worldwide with State Department approval. That’s why it’s no surprise that Barrett has secured their first international government contract with the MRAD Extreme Long Range (MRADELR) sniper system.

In 2021, the Barrett MRAD MK22 was announced contract winner in the USSOCOM Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR) and U.S. Army Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) trials. Since then the MRAD family has earned its reputation for meeting precision demands typically achieved only by custom-built rifles and adaptability to operational needs with user-changeable barrels and calibers.

The MRADELR is the next step forward for Barrett with extreme long-range marksmanship, sharing all the features, innovative technology, precision engineering, and high-quality material standards with the renowned MRAD family. The MRADELR has been scaled up, however, for use with larger calibers like the .416 Barrett. This extreme long-range system is designed for target engagement beyond 2000 yards. In its first public showing at the 2023 King of 2 Miles competition, the MRADELR outperformed other production rifles making hits out to 3526 yards.

Details of the international contract are under wraps currently, however, Barrett has confirmed delivery to the US-allied nation within the year, demonstrating the company’s manufacturing capabilities and its commitment to providing tip-of-the-spear solutions to international defense organizations.

The MRADELR is available now, chambered in .416 Barrett with a 36” barrel and 1:9 twist rate. The rifle is 62” in overall length and weighs in at an impressive 23 lbs empty. It is fed via a 5-round box magazine.

Barrett recently announced a significant agreement, upgrading existing Model 82A1 rifles belonging to the NATO-allied Norwegian Armed Forces. The rifles, in service since 1999, will be replaced by the advanced M107A1 model.

This new contract continues to solidify Barrett’s status as an industry leader in advancing long-range capabilities for both military and civilian markets. The MRADELR follows in the footsteps of giants, with a military-proven long-range precision heritage.
