Charter Arms has once again unceremoniously debuted some more revolvers that we needed to hunt down to learn more about. We previously spent 6 weeks covering “The Professional” series, and I heard your feedback - you were utterly burnt out listening to me prattle on about one manufacturer for a month and a half. So, today we are going to introduce you to the Charter Arms Mastiff series which consists of 6 unique models to tempt your wallet, and we are covering all of them today!

What are these Revolvers Going to be Known for? - Charter Arms Mastiff Series

You could easily discern this by looking at them, but the hallmark features for all of the Charter Arms Mastiff revolvers are their long barrels, optics rail, and optics that come with each wheelgun. Additionally, they will come in a black plastic case and be outfitted with a Sightmark optic from the factory (exact variant, not specified). They will also all don a spurred hammer, shrouded ejector rod, and a 3-point cylinder lock-up; a trait typically reserved for large bore revolvers (.454 Casull or larger, normally).

“The Charter Arms Target Mastiff revolver is precision-engineered and designed for accuracy and reliability. With a sleek and durable Black Nitride Finish, it offers both strength and style. Its ergonomic grip ensures comfortable handling, while its Sightmark Red Dot optic allows for precise aiming, making it an ideal choice for competition and defensive uses. Whether at the range or in competition, the Charter Arms Target Mastiff delivers consistent performance and exceptional accuracy with every shot.”

Charter Arms Target Mastiff 9mm, 6" Black Nitride

One defining attribute that separates this 9mm Mastiff from the other, other than its Black Nitride finish, is the case-colored hammer. The single photo we obtained makes the hammer appear to look gold in appearance (like a Titanium Nitride - TiN), but it is, in fact, a case-colored hammer. This Charter Arms Mastiff will run you $714 at its full MSRP.

Charter Arms Target Mastiff .357 Magnum, 6" Stainless Steel

The 2nd cartridge that Charter Arms is offering in the Mastiff series of double-action/single-action revolvers is the venerable .357 Magnum round. With this, you can additionally shoot .38 Special as we all know and you have nearly identical features as its 9mm stainless counterpart. The .357 Magnum has a touch lower price point at an MSRP of $672 compared to the 9mm which might surprise a few people as well.

Charter Arms Target Mastiff .357 Magnum, 6" Black Nitride

With a second offering of a 6” Black Nitride finished Target Mastiff, we once again see a case-colored hammer for this Charter Arms .357 Magnum wheelgun. This one punches in at $686 (interesting pricing considering that’s the model number to one of their direct competitors - Smith & Wesson 686).

  • Cartridge: .357 Magnum
  • Action: Double-Action (DA) / Single-Action (SA)

Charter Arms Target Mastiff .44 Special, 6" Stainless Steel

The most curious, and possibly most perplexing, cartridge offering to appear through the new Charter Arms Target Mastiff series is the .44 Special. If they accomplished crafting a .44 Special, it would have been tremendously easy - one would think - to simply bump it up to .44 Magnum and allow enthusiasts to shoot both cartridges. The price tag you are looking at for this one is benchmarked at $674.80 (oddly specific).

  • UPC: 678958744651 | SKU: 74465
  • Cartridge: .357 Magnum
  • Action: Double-Action (DA) / Single-Action (SA)
  • Barrel Length: 6” Stainless Ported w/ Fixed Sights

  • Overall Length: 11.25”
  • Capacity: 5 Rounds

Charter Arms Target Mastiff .44 Special, 6" Black Nitride

With this being the 6th revolver to come from the Charter Arms Target Mastiff series, you know the drill. This one is Black Nitride finished with a case-colored hammer in the intriguing .44 Special cartridge offering, and it’ll set you back $688.80 if you want it to end up in your gun safe at the end of the day.

  • UPC: 678958645654 | SKU: 64465
  • Cartridge: .44 Special
  • Action: Double-Action (DA) / Single-Action (SA)
  • Barrel Length: 6” Black Nitride Ported w/ Fixed Sights
  • Safety: Full Hammer Block Safety System
  • Overall Length: 11.25”
  • Capacity: 5 Rounds

Charter Arms has once again surprised and caught me off guard (twice in one year!) by slipping into their portfolio of arms the Target Mastiff series. With 9mm, .357 Magnum, and .44 Special cartridge offerings and your choice of Stainless or Black Nitride, these six revolvers may be appearing on gun store shelves or internet retailers near you. Now, only two questions remain:

  1. Are you going to add one of the Target Mastiff revolvers to your collection?
  2. When - if ever - will Charter Arms reach out to us for single-handedly hyping all of their new revolvers? (I’m only half kidding… maybe 10% kidding… I’m not kidding)

As always, let us know all of your thoughts about Charter Arms and their new Target Mastiff series of wheelguns in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.

I was really hoping for a .45 Colt.

But the .44 Special is going to be nice.

    "... shrouded ejector rod..."

You know, maybe I'm missing something....I looked at all the pics provided and didn't see one ejector rod shroud....?

"...to simply bump it up to .44 Magnum and allow enthusiasts to shoot both cartridges...."

Heh....if you have ever shot a Bulldog with even slightly warm 44Spl loads you understand that it would take an enthusiast....a very serious enthusiast....to touch off a 44Mag in a light weight Charter Arms roscoe.....
