FN Adds New 5.7×28 Ammunition Offerings
The 5.7×28 renaissance continues with two new ammo options from FN. One is the SS200 defensive load available to civilian and governmental purchasers alike, and the other is a more affordable training load. Let’s dive into the specifics.
Fiocchi's New 5.7×28 Range Dynamics Bulk Pack: More Rounds, More Fun
Fiocchi, a leading ammunition manufacturer, has expanded its 5.7x28mm cartridge lineup with the Range Dynamics bulk pack, a new addition to its precision-manufactured cartridges. The 150-round boxes of 40-grain FMJ 5.7x28mm are perfect for defensive pistol and carbine practice, plinking, or simply indulging in the fun of mag dumps. The new bulk packaging makes it easier for recreational and personal defense shooters to increase their range time and reduce their cost per round.
5.7mm on the Rise? Ruger Releases the New 5.7x28mm LC Carbine
The 5.7x28mm is quite an interesting cartridge. Developed in the 80s at the behest of NATO as an intended replacement for the long-lived 9×19 cartridge, 5.7 promised to have better range, better accuracy, greater capacity firearms, and better terminal performance – even against lightly armored targets. However, almost 40 years later, the 5.7x28mm cartridge is still somewhat obscurity with very few firearms being chambered for it in comparison to 9mm which has seen vast improvements and widespread adoption by law enforcement, military, and civilians. However, despite all this, 5.7x28mm isn’t dead yet and today we’re receiving a new firearm for the hot little cartridge in the form of the new Ruger LC Carbine.
[SHOT 2022] PSA Shows off their 5.7 Rock Pistol and Some PSAKs
Palmetto State Armory showed off a variety of new products today, including the widely rumored and eagerly anticipated 5.7 Rock handgun. They also had their PSAK-105 pistol that I shot yesterday, a PSAK in 5.56, and a clone of the Chinese “Spiker” AK in 7.62×39.
TFB Round Table: Is 5.7x28mm an Effective Self-Defense Round?
It might be premature to say that FN Herstal’s 5.7x28mm cartridge (“5.7”) is experiencing a renaissance, but the cartridge has done something that most proprietary-ish, specialized calibers don’t do: Bask in increased popularity decades after its introduction.
Man Charged With Stealing Firearms And Parts From The ATF
The Journal reported that 52 year old, Christopher Yates has been arrested and charged with stealing a firearm and firearm parts from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE/ATF). The thefts reportedly took place at an ATF facility in West Virginia.
Modern Personal Defense Weapon Calibers 014: The .223 Timbs (7.62x25mm Tokarev w/ Sabot!)
What do you get when you take the venerable speedster 7.62 Tokarev, and load it with a muzzleloader-style sabot and 50gr .22 cal projectile? You get one of the most interesting pistol, submachine gun, and personal defense weapon ammunition concepts there is!
TFB's 11th Day Of Christmas: Pistols
Ah, what more do you need on a long winter’s night than a crackling fire, a warm drink and a pistol that you can use to fight your way back to your rifle. That saying never seems to get old… however, without starting a full-on blizzard of angry comments, a pistol is an adequate defensive weapon in the majority of first-world scenarios. That’s not to say that I would try and dictate how others decide to protect themselves.
The FN Five-seveN Pistol (5.7x28mm)
The FN Five-seveN pistol is chambered for the same 5.7x28mm cartridge as the famous P90 PDW, but the short barrel of the pistol results in less velocity. Still, the Five-seveN is perhaps the perfect sidearm for a man using the P90 as a primary. It also makes for a great range gun as the low recoil and nearly absent muzzle flip result is a very pleasant shooting experience. In this installment of TFBTV we do a quick overview of this little gun from FN. The pistol featured has an aftermarket barrel installed.
PS90: Toy or Tool?
The 5.7x28mm cartridge is certainly a divisive round. On one hand, you have people making ludicrously grandiose claims about its effectiveness, while others simply write it off as a gimmick or overpriced .22WMR from Belgium. A long time ago I wrote the PS90 off as a pointless, but fun rifle (having little utility but being a fun range toy) and so decided to run around with it at the ranch for a few different trips up there. So, is it a tool or simply a toy?
Interesting 5.7 Ammo
And not only interesting looking, but apparently also a little controversial right now. Thanks to Jess for sending this link to a post on the International Ammunition Association website:
