Streamlight TLR-7 X Sub: Small Size, Big Candlepower

But wait, you say—didn’t we just hear about something like this? Correct. Back in January, Streamlight showed off their TLR-7 X at SHOT Show, and we told you:

Streamlight stepped into the rechargeable territory with its new TLR-7X rail mounted weapon light. This is expected to end users’ worries about battery replacement and lifespan. Equipped with the high-performance Streamlight SL-B9 Protected Li-Ion USB Rechargeable Battery Pack, the TLR-7 X flashes a whopping 500 lumens of light, translating to a beam distance of 140 meters with a max Candela of 5,000. Compact with a length of 2.58 inches and available in black and flat dark earth colors, the TLR-7 X represents the future of all rail mounted weapon lights from Streamlight.

Streamlight also makes versions of their WMLs, and that’s what we have here. The TLR-7 X sub is made for subcompact pistols, with that same either/or battery technology. It replaces the earlier TLR-7 sub light. Currently, Streamlight offers a version to fit the Glock 43X/48 MOS and 43X/48rail; the SIG Sauer P365 and P365 XL closed rail systems; the Springfield Armory Hellcat; and some 1913 short-railed subcompacts including the Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 subcompact, Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact, Springfield Armory XD-E, XD-S and Hellcat Pro, Heckler & Koch HK45 compact, and SIG Sauer P365 XMACRO.

The TLR-7 X sub has a white LED that puts more than 5,000 candela and 500 lumens in a beam that reaches more than 450 feet, with a concentrated beam that also offers peripheral coverage. Streamlight claims a run-time of 1.5 hours off a 3V CR123A lithium battery, or 1 hour off a rechargeable Streamlight SL-B9 li-ion battery back (which can be installed or removed from the front of the light, so you don’t have to take the entire light off the firearm for its 2.5-hours of recharging).

The TLR-7 X sub will attach with a single-handed snap-on motion that doesn’t require you to put your hand in front of the pistol’s muzzle, and it comes with a safe-off locking feature, so you don’t turn it on accidentally. Made of machined aluminum with a black anodized finish, the weight is only 2.39 ounces with a CR123A battery installed, or 2.64 ounces with their proprietary SBL-B9 battery. The light is 2.51 inches long and comes with an IPX-7 weatherproof rating.

The asking price for a standard TLR-7 X sub is $253.66 MSRP, and for that money you get a single CR123A battery thrown in. If you pay $265.66 for the TLR-7 X sub USB model, you get the SL-B9 battery pack thrown in, and a USB-C charge cord. A lifetime warranty is standard; find more details here.
