Spuhr AR15 - The AR15 Made In Sweden
There are many opportunities to watch new tips and tricks from top competitors from around the World at the IPSC Rifle World Shoots. Every now and then you see new things, also in terms of calibers and firearms designs. This article circles around an AR15 made in Sweden, by Spuhr. There are only two rifles built so far, and there is no plan (yet) to make any more.
At first glimpse, it may look like an ordinary black AR15, but I’m pretty sure that our readers have already started seeing some differences.
I found Pia Nordquist from Sweden in the Shoot Off where the top individuals compete for honor and glory, as a competition in the competition. The Shoot Off is all for fun, except it’s dead serious of course and everyone wants to win. Below you can see her Spuhr rifle, the one with the Duck sticker.
I had a discussion with Håkan Spuhr just after the World Shoot to get some more details on the rifle:
“The development of the new Spuhr upper is just the result of the not so reliable point of impact, from a standard AR15 upper. The issue lies in the thin threaded piece that holds both the barrel and forend. The thin threaded piece is designed that way to be lightweight and good enough for an infantry soldier with open sights. That is pretty far away from the DMR requirement we have today on a good AR. So my design is basically just doing that Seekins, Aero precision and others have been doing for years but the Spuhr version is also Picatinny rail longer. We have done loads of testing and so far we are very happy with it.”

In the shoot off, here’s what the target array looks like. The black steel needs to go down first, in any order. After that, whoever gets the white steel popper down first wins. I think the distance was around 60-70 meters.
