SILENCER SATURDAY #334: Walking Quietly - Suppressed Pistol Holsters

It’s currently an absolute monsoon and the range looks like an amphibian’s playground, so we are stuck inside again this weekend, this time discussing suppressed pistol holsters.

I’m still conflicted on the overall utility of pistol suppressors - compact weapons made for portability and concealability are instantly doubled in size with a full-size silencer mounted on the end. Of course, that doesn’t mean that it has to be all about utility. Shooting suppressed weapons is fun, and that is reason enough to own a system that allows you to carry a pistol/silencer combo safely and comfortably.

My current “nightstand gun” uses the original SureFire MasterFire holster and compatible weapon light. While it is not primarily designed as a suppressed pistol holster, it is very well made, has a lockout feature, and can activate the weapon light automatically as you draw.

Over the years I have been tempted to invest in a couple of other suppressed pistol holsters, including the T.Rex Arms RagnarokSD and the QVO Tactical SecondarySD. The topic came up again recently when the guys from Hush Holsters reached out about their flagship model. Like the SureFire, the Hush Holster is weaponlight-centered, but adds other light manufacturers to the compatibility list.

While also not primarily designed for suppressed pistol use, the Crye GunClip is one of the original host holders and, even though it lacks some features of the newer options, comes in as the cheapest options. That is, if you can still find one available for purchase.

I would venture a guess that most suppressor/pistol holster users are hog hunters that want a secondary firearm in the brush, or other hunters that prefer to carry a quieter backup option. But if you are using a holster for a suppressed pistol, we’d like to hear from you - what is your use case and which manufacturer/model did you land on?

HUSH Holsters

T.Rex Arms RagnarokSD

Suppressed pistols have their place, but holstering them has always been a challenge. While there have been suppressor “compatible” holsters on the market for some time, there aren’t any that we like or approve of. That’s why we made the RagnarokSD, an outside-the-waistband holster with the same consistency, reliability, and durability as our standard Ragnarok holster.
