SIG’s Newest Image Stabilized Binoculars, The ZULU6-HDX PRO

Sig Sauer has updated its ZULY6-HDX image-stabilized binocular line with the new ZULU6-HDX PRO. From hunting to birding, if you have ever used stabilized binoculars, you know how much frustration they can take out of the experience when using them without some form of support. Let’s take a closer look at the features of the updated ZULU6-HDX PRO and see if they might be the right fit for your next outdoor adventure.

SIG glass @ TFB:

Optics

Announcing its new ZULU6-HDX PRO binoculars in 14x, 16x, and 18x, Sig boasts that the ample power and generous field of view combined with fully redesigned ED glass and re-engineered lens coatings sets a new standard in optical clarity. The lens system significantly reduces ambient glare, improving light transmission by 25% and increasing color accuracy while larger 50mm objective lenses increase light-gathering capability, delivering unrivaled low light performance.

OmniScan

OmniScan, Sig’s latest Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) software update, is designed to blend Scan and Target modes using a digital accelerometer to adjust stabilization automatically. Slower movement requires a higher degree of stabilization, unlike more rapid motion of the optic. Eliminating the need to toggle between settings, OmniScan delivers an advanced stabilization experience with more seamless operation for the end user.

Construction

The thermoplastic body of the ZULU6-HDX PRO is rated IPX-7 waterproof, and fogproof. Battery compartments on this new model have been set on opposing sides of the binocular body with upgraded texture on the diopter ring and main focus wheel, providing a more comfortable grip and updated ergonomics. Speaking of batteries, the unit is powered by a pair of common AAs featuring 40+ hours of constant runtime, greatly increased by the 10-minute auto-shutoff feature.

The new ZULU6-HDX PRO binoculars are available now with an MSRP of $1,499 for the 14x, $1,599 for the 16x and $1,699 for the 18x. According to Sig, access quantities are limited and expect early supplies to deplete quickly.

I am personally interested in trying out the new ZULU6-HDX PRO as I have used stabilized binoculars for some years now and find them quite handy on the range and out in nature. With optics and electronics technology providing a higher level of clarity and a better overall user experience, it may be time to upgrade. Tell us in the comments below if you’re a fan of image-stabilized binoculars and what you use them for.
