Savage Arms 110 Trail Hunter Lite: Built For Tough Hunting

Savage Arms just expanded its lineup of up-spec'd rifles again, with the release of the new 110 Trail Hunter Lite. As the name implies, this is an evolution of the existing 110 Trail Hunter model. That rifle comes with a 22-inch medium heavy barrel. The new Lite version has a 20-inch fluted barrel to cut down on weight, to about 7 pounds, depending on which cartridge your rifle is chambered for (the 350 Legend version has an 18-inch barrel). The standard 110 Trail Hunter weighs around 8 pounds.

Aside from that, the formula is very similar. The barreled action is tungsten Cerakoted to keep corrosion at bay; the rifle sits in a black Hogue Overmolded stock with two built-in swivel studs. The barrel is threaded for a muzzle device.

And of course, the Model 110 action is very well-known, going back more than 50 years in Savage Arms history. This version of the action comes with a detachable box mag and as always, a three-position tang safety. Savage's proprietary AccuTrigger comes standard, adjustable from 2.5 pounds to 6 pounds. Savage also set up the action for Weaver-style two-piece optic bases.

“We are very excited to introduce the next evolution of the 110 Trail Hunter as Savage continues to bolster its lineup of firearms designed for hunters,” said Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing at Savage Arms. “The 110 Trail Hunter Lite is another great partnership with Hogue and brings all of the toughness of the original 110 Trail Hunter, with decreased weight to ensure it’s easier to carry afield.”

Magazine capacity depends on which cartridge your rifle is chambered in, but all these rifles come with detachable mags. [Savage Arms]

Considering the general rise in interest in lightweight mountain-style rifles, it could be the right gun at the right time for Savage Arms—especially because the MSRP of $669 is well below much of the competition in this category.
