TFB’s Photo Of The Day is here to stimulate your senses, your eyes and your brain. Sometimes just one image is enough. Here we have the Royal Commandos from the Surveillance and Reconnaissance Squadron, as they check if the beach is good enough for the backup to come.

Pictured: The Surveillance and Reconnaissance Squadron recce a beach to ensure its suitable for amphibious forces.

10 - 13 June 2023, Commandos from X-Ray Company Group were deployed from HMS Albion under the cover of darkness on small inflatable raiding craft (IRC).

They tactically inserted onto a beach in Poland and conducted advance force operations to shape the battlefield for offensive operations. HMS Albion and 45 Commando form part of Littoral Response Group North and are taking part in Ex CONDOR STRIKE, part of BALTOPS 23.

BALTOPS is an annual maritime military exercise held in the Baltic Sea and surrounding regions. It presents a unique training opportunity to strengthen the combined response capability, which is vital to preserving both freedom of navigation, and security, in the Baltic Region.

The Commandos, from 45 Commando based at RM Condor in Arbroath, Scotland, were enabled by members of the Shore Reconnaissance Troop (SRT), part of the Surveillance and Reconnaissance Squadron (SRS), who recced the beach before they landed. BALTOPS 23 and specifically Ex CONDOR STRIKE, present the UK Commando Force the opportunity to integrate and operate alongside NATO partners with the USA, Poland (POL), Italy (ITA), and Romania (ROM) taking part.
