HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Budget Collector or Dumpster Inspector?
Welcome everyone to the 241st edition of 'Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?', one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question - is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
An incredibly rare (almost) 50/50 split on our last edition, a 7.62x39mm Galil, with the ‘Hot Gat’ camp narrowly clinching it. The rifle is still up for grabs with an asking price of $3,500.
Additionally, our earlier edition which looked at the ‘hot’ French FAMAS saw the bullpup failing to sell but it has been relisted and is still up for grabs. We can only hope this $75k bullpup will soon find its way into a new home.

“This looks like somebody is trying to get rid of a bunch of leftover parts by throwing them in a cement mixer and selling whatever comes out. You could write an entire post mortem on this gun.
-Romeo 4H missing turret caps. The stock mount is unpainted so you know it used to be on a Unity Riser, but they wanted to reuse the Unity for their new build.
-Upper receiver is missing the forward assist and has an unpainted mismatched Magpul dust cover. So you can guess that they bought a new stripped upper for their new build but forgot to get a completion kit, so they took the FA and dust cover off of the original.
- Handguard is unpainted but the barrel and gas block are
-1913 QD swivel mount placed in exactly the same place as the QD cup on the handguard” - Hop

Building an AR-15 is almost a right of passage into the firearm community. That however doesn’t mean that what you build will be understood by anyone else outside of yourself. After all to many years of seeing someone’s 'custom build' and living through too many fads, I’m about as biased as they come. With that said, this little pistol isn’t that bad.
I mean sure, it’s built on an arguably budget receiver (yes, I like AERO and I’ve built some AERO receivers). The optic is on the cheaper end, but not wish.com bad. Then leaning heavily towards a fancy rail and irons makes this a little strange. Sure those are higher-end parts, but it feels like putting a carbon fiber hood on a Honda Civic.
The good news is it’s priced correctly. It does fall into that weird space of being an AR pistol and I don’t know practically what to do with it, but that doesn’t answer the underlying question. Is this little pistol that could worth it for a shade under $900 or are you better off buying something a little less custom? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
