Pietro Gussalli Beretta signs agreement with Hungary’s Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky (Hungarian Govt.)

The Hungarian government and Beretta Holding have entered into an agreement to establish ammunition manufacturing in Hungary. The Hungarian armed forces are looking to locally produce both 7.62x51mm and 12.7mm (.50 BMG) ammunition for their armored vehicle fleet. The letter of intent will lead to the establishment of new production lines which will provide secure local production of widely used NATO machine gun ammunition.

Beretta @ TFB:

In March 2022, Beretta Holding acquired RUAG Ammotec in a major step into the ammunition manufacturing sector. In late 2022 it was also announced Beretta would be investing up to $60 million in a brand new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution hub in Savannah, Georgia for Norma Precision.

Here’s the Hungarian Ministry of Defense’s full announcement (machine translated):

On behalf of N7 Holding Nemzeti Védelmi Ipari Innovációs Zrt. and the Italian Beretta group of companies, the owner, Pietro Gussalli Beretta, signed a declaration of intent on ammunition production in Budapest, with the countersignature of Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, in Budapest.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced: with the signing of the letter of intent between the N7 defense industry holding and the long-established Italian Beretta group of companies, two new types of ammunition – very important for the Hungarian Defense Forces – will be produced in Hungary.

The minister said that the 7.62mm and 12.7mm ammunition are needed for the armament of our already well-known Lynx and Gidrán combat vehicles. The production of both of our devices was transferred to Hungary, and soon the ammunition will also be produced here, he added.

He emphasized: in the current security situation, there is a particularly high demand for both types of ammunition, but with domestic production, we can increase security of supply. At the same time, we can arrange for export production in the long term, thus increasing and strengthening the Hungarian economy – concluded the minister’s statement.
