HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Hundred Dolla Bills or Hundred Dollar Skills?

Welcome everyone to the 196th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the Chameleon Robinson XCR was a hot gat.

At this time the original auction has ended after a 22-bid bidding war with a closing price of $2,025. Congratulations to GunBroker buyer Heckleberryhound692 on the purchase of your certified hot gat.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a very custom Glock 23 chambered in .40 Smith & Wesson. As is tradition, this hydro-dipped gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for a $1,750 Starting Bid or $2,500 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“My finger was hovering over the BIN button until I saw that this came with 10 round magazines.” – James Reeves

“A Glock trying to be a Hi-Point? The gun community’s self-satirization may have gone too far.” – Will P.

“Well made, robust, classy, although a bit flamboyant. We’re taking about the Negrini case, right?” – Giorgio O.

“The owner of that gun is probably named Chad, but wants to be referred to as Young Pup or Weezy.” – Adam S.

“Just what every aspiring street pharmacist needs.”- Nick C.

“Pretty fly for a .40 guy” – Rusty S.

It’s always interesting to see my least favorite version of a product that’s been heavily customized. To me, the Glock 23 is the Porsche Boxster of the gun community. While the Boxster is still a Porsche, in the back of my head I’m wondering why you didn’t buy a 911 instead. Is the Glock 23 a bad gun? No, but it’s also pretty far down the list of favorite .40 Smith & Wesson guns I like to shoot.

This gun reaffirms the fact that this series will always be relevant. From time to time I’m forced to consider the idea that the well of weird/terrible/interesting firearms might eventually dry up. Then something like this pops up on GunBroker, and of course, the seller is from Florida. I’m not trying to stereotype, these things just fall into place all by themselves. I’m now forced to consider the “But Why?” factor while also considering any redeeming factors guns like these once have. So to that end, at least it’s still a Glock? So while I may not agree with the finish, it’s probably still reliable.

Of course, that’s not what we’re here to answer. What do you think? Is there some redeeming quality that I’m missing that makes this Glock worth $1,750 – $2,500? Or would you rather keep your hundreds than shell them out for this? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.

It's all about the "Benjamins" but, when it's a Glock it's all about the polymer and that trigger will never be as good as a 1911.
