POTD: The new German G22A2 Sniper Rifle in "Partner Assisted Positions"

Today’s Photos take us to the European Best Sniper Team Competition that takes place in Grafenwöhr, Bavaria, Germany.

With 17 participating nations, such as Spain, Canada, Turkey, Sweden (note the M90 camouflage on the man standing) and Poland, it is one of the largest events of its kind in Europe.

Earlier this year Accuracy International Ltd. (AI), announced an order to upgrade and retrofit the G22A2 sniper rifles of the German Armed Forces. The color of the rifle is AI Pale Brown.

The optics is a Steiner Military 5-25×56 with the TReMoR3 reticle.

To my knowledge, this is the first time we see the G22A2 in the wild.

As a bonus, there are several so-called “partner assisted positions“.

Reportedly 780 weapons have been commissioned to be converted, which will be fully delivered by the end of 2020.

The Bundeswehr claims an effective range of 1,100 m (1,203 yards) with the setup.

The G22, or Gewehr 22 (Rifle), is an AI AWM-F ( AI-Arctic Warfare Magnum) chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum. (7.62 × 67 mm).

It looks like the spotter is using a Vectronix laser range finder.

Last year Sweden won the competition overall, also using (a lot less modern) Accuracy International in .308 Win. You can read more here: Europe Best Sniper Team Competition 2018 – The Winners.

Dutch Snipers in a strange shooting position is also worth a look.
