DRD Tactical Awarded APTUS(AMG) Rifle Contract in Asia

Georgia-based DRD Tactical have announced a procurement contract with an unnamed US ally in Asia to provide an unspecified number of their APTUS(AMG) Rifles. The APTUS uses a patented internal recoil system that allows the rifle to have a folding stock and a quick change barrel.

DRD Tactical will be shipping 5.56x45mm and .300BLK barrels along with SilencerCo’s Chimera 300 suppressors with the order. Unlike the commercially available APTUS, the APTUS(AMG) will be a select-fire weapon. DRD says their “patented internal recoil system eliminates the standard buffer tube/spring associated with most 556/300BLK rifles allowing the rifle to be fired with the stock folded.” While the APTUS “can be assembled in less than 60 seconds without the use of any tools.” Depending on 10.5 or 16in barrel the APTUS has an overall length of 19.5-27.5in. The rifles are DI but do not have the AR-15s typical buffer system or lower receiver, instead having a left-side charging handle and a folding, adjustable stock.

Here’s DRD’s short statement in full:

DRD has been awarded a fixed quantity-fixed price contract for our APTUS(AMG) Rifle from a US ally in Asia. These APTUS(AMG) rifles are select fire (safe-semi-auto) version of our semi-auto rifles. The machine guns will be shipped with 5.56 NATO barrels, 300BLK barrels and SilencerCo Chimera 300 sound suppressors. Delivery on this contract starts this month and will be completed in Summer 2020.

DRD Tactical specializes in design and manufacturing of patented Take Down Rifles in 338 Lapua Magnum, 7.62 NATO, 6.5 Creedmoor, 5.56 NATO and 300BLK calibers, and select fire machine guns in 7.62 NATO, 5.56 NATO and 300BLK calibers in our modern CNC manufacturing facility in Georgia.

Intrigued as to who the US ally in Asia might be we reached out to DRD Tactical to enquire about the new contract. Alas, the nature of the contract does not allow DRD to discuss the details of the contract but Justin Padgett, DRD’s Sales and Marketing VP, did say that DRD are “happy to be creating and producing the products that countries around the world want and need to defend their freedoms.  We plan to continue the development of new products that we feel will further these efforts.”

Here’s a video from DRD showing the .300BLK APTUS running a SAKER suppressor:
